SimPowerSystems

SimPowerSystems extends Simulink with tools for modeling and simulating basic electrical circuits and detailed electrical power systems. These tools let you model the generation, transmission, distribution, and consumption of electrical power, as well as its conversion into mechanical power. SimPowerSystems is well suited to the development of complex, self-contained power systems, such as those in automobiles, aircraft, manufacturing plants, and power utility applications.

Feb 2012 Modeling and Control of a Full-Bridge Modular Multilevel STATCOM
Authors : Jean Bélanger, Authors : Luc-André Gregoire, Authors : Wei Li
Related Event: 2011 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) General Meeting
Abstract : Due to its unique topology, the Modular Multilevel STATCOM has many advantages but requires a sophisticated controller and puts higher requirements on simulation tools. To simulate the STATCOM in real-time is preferable...
Nov 2011 Modeling of a Multilevel H-Bridge STATCOM
Authors : L.-A. Grégoire, Authors : V. Lapointe, Authors : W. Li
Related Event: 221th IEEE International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE 2012) .
Abstract : This paper proposes to model and simulate in real-time a multilevel STATCOM using H-bridge topology. The STATCOM is done using 20 cascaded H-bridge cells for each phase, and a total of 60 cells or 240 IGBTs and 240 anti-...
Nov 2011 A Novel and Flexible Test Stand for Medium Voltage Drives Using a Hardware-in-loop (HIL) Simulator
Authors : Ata Douzdouzani, Authors : Christian Dufour, Authors : Jean Bélanger, Authors : Weihua Wang
Related Event: PCIM Europe
Abstract : With increasing complexity of topology and control strategies in medium voltage (MV) drives, a digital hardware-in-loop (HIL) simulator exhibits great advantage over a traditional analog test stand in terms of cost and...
Aug 2011 Control and Performance of a Modular Multilevel Converter System
Authors : Jean Bélanger, Authors : Luc-André Gregoire, Authors : Wei Li
Related Event: 2011 CIGRE Canada Conference on Power Systems: Promoting better Power Systems
Abstract : The Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) system has many advantages over conventional voltage source converters and therefore can be used in dc power transmission, micro grid, or renewable energy applications. While MMC’s...
Jun 2011 Floating-Point Engines for the FPGA-Based Real-Time Simulation of Power Electronic Circuits
Authors : Christian Dufour, Authors : Jean Mahseredjian, Authors : Jean-Pierre David, Authors : Tarek Ould Bachir
Related Event: IPST 2011 - International Conference on Power Transients
Abstract : The real-time simulation of power electronic circuits is challenging for several reasons. A PC-based simulation can hardly achieve time-steps below 5-10 μs: this yields a limit on the maximal power electronic switching...
May 2011 Tools for Analysis and Design of Distributed Resources—Part IV: Future Trends
Authors : J. A. Martinez, Authors : M. H. Nehrir, Authors : V. Dinavahi, Authors : X. Guillaud
Abstract : Real-time testing of new and more sophisticated distributed resource interfaces during transients, representing the different physical parts (mechanical, thermal, hydraulic, chemical, electrical, electronics) of a...
Apr 2011 A Combined State-Space Nodal Method for the Simulation of Power System Transients
Authors : Christian Dufour, Authors : Jean Bélanger, Authors : Jean Mahseredjian
Related Event: 2011 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) General Meeting
Abstract : This paper presents a new solution method that combines state-space and nodal analysis for the simulation of electrical systems. The presented flexible clustering of state-space described electrical subsystems into a...
