OP5000 Digital I/O channels: Static vs. Dynamic Digital I/O

 Question:

What is the difference between Static and Dynamic Digital I/O channels offered by the OP5000 FPGA?

Answer:

By dynamic digital I/O channels, it means that they are time stamped.  So for each digital I/O channel there is a timed input or output.  These Digital I/O channels are referred to as Event Generator (DOUT) and Event Detector (DIN).

The TSDIO channels are time-stamped.  Static digital I/O channels do not have the time-stamp.

OP5000 FPGA:

  • Event detectors and generators, with a resolution of 10 ns resolution, able to capture of events between simulation time steps
  • Easy interface Simulink blocks to generate arbitrary waveforms programmable on-the-fly at each model time step using RT-EVENTS block set (see "Pulse GeneratI/On with FPGA and RT- EVENTS in Simulink").
  • Static Digital Output option (pulse output at beginning of each time step

This is important because it will determine which FPGA bitstream is used for the OPAL-RT FPGA card installed in your system and the configuration of the conditioning cards.
