Doubly-fed induction generator for wind turbine applications

This demo implements a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) for a wind-turbine connected to a grid circuit.

The inductive grid, transformers, and induction machine are modeled in SimPowerSystems. The two PWM inverters are modeled with Time-Stamped Bridges. This demo runs in two CPUs: one implements the high power system; and the other implements two PWM inverter controllers. In all tests, the PWM carrier frequency is set to 2 kHz and the simulation step size is 50 microseconds.

DFIG is most commonly used wind turbine generator in wind industry nowadays. This model can be used for wind power studies. Combined with wind turbine model, various phenomena of interests, such as characteristics and control of DFIG, maximum wind power point tracking, low voltage ride through of WTG, reactive power compensation at point of common connection, etc, can be studied and validated.
