10 Wind-Turbine Farm and Power Grid

This demo models a wind farm consisting of 10 doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) based wind turbine generator (WTG) models.

Ten detailed doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG) based WTGS models, containing individual power electronics component, were connected to a three-section transmission system through a transformer. Each WTGS had its own distribution transformer connected to the sub-collector bus.

To form a high-resolution benchmark for protective device and power electronics controller design, three kinds of grid fault, i.e. single-line-to-ground, three-phase, and two-phase-to-ground, were introduced and fault responses of the wind farm were investigated with 50μs time-step.

DFIG is most commonly used wind turbine generator in wind industry nowadays. This model can be used for wind power studies. Various phenomena of interests, such as characteristics and control of DFIG, maximum wind power point tracking, low voltage ride through of WTG, reactive power compensation at point of common connection, etc, can be studied and validated.
